The giants among us

Painfully and somewhat obtusely we get delivered into this world.

We sleep, cry and stumble our way through those first few years, innocently, beautifully and unwaveringly trusting the giants around us.

Instinct or logic dictates that the giants know best. The sheer size of them, the certainty in their voices!

The words they say creep deep into the bones of us, the reflection we see in their eyes become who we think we are.

Innocence fades, and all we have left to make sense of the gaping chasm now being filled with the unknown are the words in our bones and the look in those eyes.

But this world is no place for the weak and soon disillusionment sets in.

We learn that not all giants are real. Some are just wearing giant suits.

Some got a hand-me-down; they thought they were the lucky ones, so they just accepted it and settled right in.

Some were left to their own devices; with all their might they worked to get one of the biggest, prettiest suits, and they too proudly settled in.

Some felt the discomfort of these suits, and since the price is high, they went plundering, and they kept plundering because it never fits just right.

Some were actual monsters, here since the dawn of time; they cleverly constructed suits to hide their hideousness and settled in perfectly, then they made more, sold to the proud and handed to the lazy.

The giants were completely oblivious to the fact that the suits hold power and will seep into the bones of them.

No one ever told them! Certainly not the monsters.

Some value comfort and stay put in their suits, but others desperately search for the zipper.

And we? We’re left wondering, are we the lucky ones? Are we blessed with wisdom or are we slightly broken. Do we get into a suit of our own?

Or do we want to find the truth. We know there must be a reason behind every lie and every voice in our head not spewing the same things we’ve been regurgitating since disillusionment set in.

We read books, watch shows, connect to the earth, stars and universe, we become awesomely wise and somewhat healed.

We learn new things about us humans; that we hold power without having to wear a suit, and that all we must do is connect to our inner child, and the universe and that if we do all this we can heal and even manifest riches!

We stay focused and work hard to maintain our newly found success.

We undo the person we saw reflected in those eyes from long ago.

We control the lies in our bones with clever mantras.

We are so busy that we never stand still long enough to wonder what the monsters did with the spoils of their sales, so certain of our own power that we forgot the monsters have been since the dawn of time……That they know all the tricks, even truth can be twisted.

What if we’re only as happy and healed as our knowledge of the gifts we discovered in this creation allows? What if now that we know there is a way we decide to learn even deeper?

Deeper than money can buy, or fame can project, so deep it is only to be found in stillness.

What if in those quiet moments we finally are scooped up, washed clean and drained of all the lies in our bones?

Not because we deserve it, but only because we can finally be still in creation long enough for the Creator to speak our name.
